Abu Dhabi Confirms Expanded Programme for World’s Largest Oil and Gas Technical Conference

ADIPEC Programme Will Include Downstream Industry for the First Time 900 Speakers Scheduled for More Than 200 Technical and Strategic Conference Sessions

Abu Dhabi, UAE – Organisers of the annual Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), hosted by ADNOC, have confirmed the event’s technical conference, already the world’s largest for oil and gas professionals, will see a significant increase in scope for 2017 to include the downstream industry for the first time, as well as more sessions for specialized areas including offshore and marine exploration and production.

With around 900 speakers scheduled for more than 200 sessions, the conference will bring together the industry’s most respected experts, global leaders and top decision makers, with around 10,000 delegates attending over the course of the event’s four days.

The expanded technical programme will encompass all layers of the industry, including upstream and midstream sessions organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), while dmg events, Global Energy, will oversee a new programme of downstream sessions. Organisers say the change reflects the accelerating search for efficiency and integration in a challenging market.

“The key to growth for oil and gas companies will be to find new ideas, and to share information in the pursuit of best practice,” said Ali Al Rawahi, Reservoir Manager – Studies (BUH/SE Asset), at the Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operations Ltd. (ADCO), and ADIPEC 2017 Technical Conference Chairman.

“ADIPEC is clearly established as the leading platform for knowledge exchange in oil and gas. What the conference offers has never been more important than it is today. Resource owners are getting better prices for their product, but nobody can rely on further rises to ensure their business. The focus will continue to be on improving efficiency and reducing cost, which can only be achieved through sharing experience between companies and across borders.”

The expansion to include the downstream sector reflects one of the emerging industry trends in oil and gas, as upstream and midstream companies are increasingly looking towards integration, collaboration and diversification across refining and petrochemicals, processing, and end-product sales to boost overall profitability.

The ADIPEC Technical Conference programme received 3,060 abstract submissions for presentations at this year’s edition, a 10 per cent increase from last year, and for the second consecutive year setting a record for the number of submitted abstracts in the oil and gas industry.

Technical abstracts came from 622 organisations located in 70 countries. Underlining ADIPEC’s expanding international reach, 59 per cent of submissions were from outside the Middle East. The ADIPEC 2017 technical committee, comprised of 164 industry leading experts, selected 809 high-quality abstracts.

Conference sessions include exploration and production geoscience; production facilities technologies; field development; operational excellence; drilling and completion technology; health, safety and environment; projects engineering and management; gas technology; unconventional resources; improved and enhanced oil recovery; people and talent; and petroleum advanced analytics.

The 2017 edition of the ADIPEC Conference programme will feature two ministerial sessions, four global business leader sessions and four downstream global business leader sessions, eight panel sessions, three offshore plenary panels, nine C-suite dialogue sessions, three industry breakfasts and three topical luncheons.

A full-day Women in Energy programme will focus specifically on the opportunities for and achievements of women working in the oil and gas industry. The co-located Security in Energy conference returns for a second year, recognising the increasingly critical importance of cyber and infrastructure security within oil and gas operations.

“At ADIPEC we create one meeting place, in one city, for one global industry, and the conference programme represents that approach,” said Christopher Hudson, President – dmg events, Global Energy, which organises ADIPEC. “It is a complete platform for a complex global industry, where we create value for every layer of the most vertically integrated oil and gas business. With CEO-level support from the industry’s most influential corporations, ADIPEC is essential for sharing knowledge, driving innovation, and generating business.”

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and organised by the Global Energy division of dmg events, ADIPEC is one of the world’s leading oil and gas events, and the largest in Africa and the Middle East.

ADIPEC will be held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 13 to 16 November 2017.

World Future Energy Summit Sees 60% Growth in Buyer Demand

High Interest in KSA 9.5 GW and India 175 GW Renewable Energy Deals

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The 10th edition of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) ended Thursday, with strong growth in commercial activity surrounding the event and the number of hosted business meetings surging by more than 60 per cent.

Hosted by Masdar as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, WFES aims to promote the business case for industries involved in sustainable energy, water, and waste management. Organisers say the rapid acceleration in the renewable energy market across the MENA and South Asian market has had a clear impact on business at the event.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Chief Executive Officer of Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company, said: “The success of the World Future Energy Summit over the last decade has been built on partnership – on bringing together governments and businesses, and sharing the goal to make renewable energy successful, dependable and commercially viable.

“The past three days have clearly shown the benefits of collaboration, and of what can be achieved through well-coordinated and decisive action. We are delighted to have hosted an event that has encouraged such lively debate, based on shared knowledge from around the region and international markets. The event has also helped both new relationships to be forged, and existing relationships at home and abroad to be cultivated. Most importantly, the World Future Energy Summit has once again inspired real decision-making. We can be proud that the 10th edition of this global event has been a successful platform for new agreements, partnerships and initiatives that will take the renewable energy and clean technologies sector forward.”

While final attendance is yet to be confirmed, early calculations show that the figures will be consistent with pre-show estimates of around 880 exhibiting companies from about 40 countries, and 38,000 attendees from 175 countries. Attendance included around 1675 CEOs from 128 countries.

In 2016, WFES hosted 850 exhibiting companies and 35,000 attendees.

While the value of most deals signed during the event is confidential, growth in attendance is outpaced by the indicators of business activity. Calculated at the start of the event’s final day, WFES 2017 hosted almost 8,600 business meetings as part of its Business Connect matchmaking programme. This compares with around 5,300 in 2016 – a rise of almost 62 per cent year-on-year.

WFES organisers overhauled their approach to matchmaking this year, offering a dedicated hosted buyer programme, a powerful digital matchmaking tool for buyers and sellers that recommended meetings and products, onsite buyer concierge, and product and exhibitor matching booth.

Those estimates do not include meetings arranged with official government delegations seeking partners for ambitious renewable energy plans.

As predicted, Saudi Arabia’s plans to add almost 10 gigawatts of renewables to its energy mix offered the most immediate business opportunity. WFES organisers arranged tailored meetings between the official Saudi delegation and around 100 developers, investors and technology suppliers. Leading the delegation, the Saudi Energy Minister, H.E. Khalid A. Al-Falih, confirmed that the first round of tenders for about USD 50 billion worth of projects would be launched in two weeks.

India’s plans to add 175 gigawatts of renewables by 2022 also attracted considerable interest, with a national delegation meeting potential partners in a dedicated India Investment roundtable meeting. India’s Energy Minister, Mr. Piyush Goyal, held private meetings with organisations including Masdar and DEWA, along with major players in the Indian renewable energy market such as AVAADA Energy and Mytrah Energy Limited.

Major announcements at WFES included a joint DEWA and Masdar announcement of plans to start building the third stage of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which at 800 megawatts will be the world’s largest PV plant on completion; a USD 50-million UAE fund for renewable energy projects in the Caribbean; a cooperation agreement between Masdar, Qatar Electricity and Water Corporation, and Nebras Power to develop renewable and sustainable energy projects; Masdar’s purchase of a 25 per cent stake in the pilot Hywind Scotland floating offshore wind farm in the North Sea; and an agreement between Masdar and Bee’ah to develop a 300,000-tonne waste-to-energy plant in Sharjah.

Masdar will also provide consultancy services for the building of a 5 megawatt grid-connected solar power plant in Seychelles.

“The growth in serious buyer activity, and the fact that so many buyers clearly see WFES as a place to start a dialogue with the widest selection of suppliers, underlines the success of the event,” said Ara Fernezian, Group Managing Director – Middle East, at Reed Exhibitions, which organises WFES in partnership with Masdar. “Renewables have very clearly moved past the point where we were trying to create a market, and we are now part of a very dynamic business environment.”

Reflecting the maturity of the sustainable energy market, renewable sources of electricity were joined by the latest advances in storage – seen as the key to confirming the effectiveness of renewables as a consistent and reliable energy source – and innovations in fields such as carbon capture, as part of the WFES exhibition and conference programme.

First held in 2008, WFES has expanded beyond its main energy focus to include co-located events for a range of interlinked markets. The 2017 edition also hosted the 5th International Water Summit (IWS), held in strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA), and the 4th EcoWASTE exhibition and conference, held in partnership with Tadweer, The Center of Waste Management in Abu Dhabi (CWM).

Also returning for the second year was Solar Expo, dedicated to advances in solar energy, while 2017 marked the launch of the Energy Efficiency Expo.

Part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2017, WFES was held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 16 to 19 January.

ADIPEC 2016 Consolidates Position as Global Knowledge Meeting Place for the Oil and Gas Industry

World Energy Giants Highlight Event’s Continuing International Appeal

Abu Dhabi, UAE – 07 December 2016 – The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) posted continued global success, celebrating a milestone year in its 19th edition, and realising ongoing industry acclaim from world oil and gas leaders.

More than 8,500 delegates, 2,000 exhibiting companies, 700 speakers, and over 95,000 visitors from 135 countries gathered in the UAE capital for ADIPEC 2016, breaking the event’s previous records in international participation, and bringing the world’s decision makers, industry leaders, and experts under one roof to address the most critical issues surrounding the evolving energy landscape.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, ADIPEC 2016 was hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), organised by dmg events, and supported by the UAE Ministry of Energy, Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Chamber, and the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).
The event surpassed last year’s numbers in both size and content, spanning 135,000 gross square metres of floor space, and featuring more than 160 engaging conference sessions covering both technical and non-technical functions in the industry – from the high-level Ministerial and Global Business Leader sessions, to the dedicated Offshore and Marine and Women in Energy sessions.
Headlining speakers in ADIPEC’s distinguished Conference Programme this year included C-suite executives from national and international oil giants, including ADNOC, ExxonMobil, Total, BP, Gazprom, Oxy, Qatar Petroleum, ENI, and Wintershall.
Speaking at the event, global CEOs and industry leaders emphasised ADIPEC’s valuable role as a global knowledge-sharing platform for the oil and gas community.
Rex W. Tillerson, Chairman and CEO of Exxon Mobil Corporation, said: “The theme of ADIPEC 2016 ‘Strategy for the New Energy Landscape’ is appropriately timed given the challenges and opportunities the energy industry must manage now and in the years to come.”
“It is great to be here at ADIPEC. This is a wonderful gathering of our industry, and it is great to be in this city of Abu Dhabi,” said Bob Dudley, Group Chief Executive of BP.
“ADIPEC 2016 has given us an international global platform,” said Mohammed Barkindo, OPEC Secretary General, who also headlined the event this year, officially launching the 2016 edition of OPEC’s World Oil Outlook report, and offering an industry briefing as part of ADIPEC’s prestigious VIP Programme.
“I’m fascinated by the way this conference is growing each and every year,” said Mario Mehren, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at Wintershall.
The ADIPEC Technical Conference Programme attracted a record-breaking 2,775 abstract submissions, which, after meticulous selection, paved the way to 106 technical sessions on topics ranging from Exploration and Production to Operational Efficiency – marking more than a 30 percent increase in the number of technical sessions from the previous year.
The event also celebrated the inaugural edition of the ‘Security in Energy’ exhibition and conference, bringing the best and brightest minds in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure under one roof to address the ever-growing challenges in today’s increasingly interconnected energy landscape, as well as the launch of the annual Young ADIPEC Forum, a series of TED-style talks designed to inspire the next generation of energy professionals.
Jean-Philippe Cossé, Vice President – Energy at dmg events, said: “ADIPEC continues to provide a platform for conversation and dialogue within the energy industry. Each year, to support the conference content, we are fortunate to have more than 2000 exhibiting companies that showcase and present the latest technologies and solutions. The event continues to expand to meet the diverse requirements of the industry, and we look forward to building on this success next year.”

ADIPEC 2016 featured 25 country pavilions including major oil producing countries, such as the US, Saudi Arabia, China, and Russia, as well as emerging markets, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Spain, marking the largest international participation in ADIPEC’s 32-year history.
